New Mommy Learning the Hard Way

Being a new mommy has taught me a lot. One thing is that I have a lot to learn. Second is that my friends and family have a lot of advice to give but don't always give the same advice. So I wanted to give you a place to go that will give you lots to think about and facts to back them up. Third is that there is a whole new world that I want to know about. Hope you like it.

Housing market levels out in CA

New home construction in CA is down from previous months.

Blogging is fun

I think the best places to find cheap movies are Netflix, credit union discount tickets, legal and free downloads, and friends houses. That way someone else rented the movie.

Sprint has refused to help find a kidnapped infant

I'm not sure how you feel about your cell phone but I have a love-hate relationship with mine. I will admit as well that I have Sprint for my service. But after hearing about the little boy that was kidnapped and could have been found faster using his parents' Sprint cell phone, I will think twice when renewing my contract. Evidently, a couple in Eastvale, CA was loading up their 2 kids into their SUV. The father put the 10 month old baby in the car and went back to get the 3 yr old that was still inside. When they came out, the baby and SUV were gone. When the parents and police called Sprint to track his cell phone that was in the vehicle, they were denied GPS service to find the kidnapped baby. How WRONG is that!!! Sprint said they couldn't do anything until an application was filled out and a $25 check was received. I guess common sense can't be found with GPS either.

YMCA wants your business but not if you breastfeed

The YMCA in Ann Arbor, MI wsw a great swimming program for little ones. But if you have a littler one than that, don't even think about feeding her or him at swim lessons. I think I have heard about as much as I can stand on this subject. From people staring at me even when I cover up at a restaurant to a mom being asked not to feed her baby while her other child takes swim lessons. Why might you ask? She was covered and modest but no food or drink was alolowed in the pool area and they didn't want to make an exception. My question for them was what was the difference in her bringing her full breasts in the pool area vs. feeding her child. Either way, she is bringing food and drink in the area.

Mommy with 2 wombs give emergency C-Section birth

When I was pregnant with my little girl, I couldn't imagine getting any bigger. Then when I had her, I couldn't imagine my "post-baby" body ever getting back to my "pre-baby" body. Then I read about Katherine Harrison and realized that I had no worries. Katherine was pregnant with baby Cai and had gone to have a prenatal check up. As soon as she got there, she had severe abdominal cramps and the drama began. Turns out, Katherine had 2 uteruses, each 1/2 the normal size. Little Cai decided he wanted to keep growing but the womb he was in wasn't big enough. So the womb ruptured and Katherine had to have an emergency C-Section. Everyone was fine but who new that you could have multiple wombs! Talk about your average monthly not being so average!

Surprise! Cuddling with your infant will make them more social later!

My little girl is such a great cuddler! One of my favorite times is at night when she snuggles with her daddy and me when she is tired. She is now old enough to almost give me a hug. So you can imagine how excited I was when I found that research has shown that infants who are cuddled a lot are more likely to grow up to be affectionate, well adjusted adults. Evidently, even if you try to make it up to them as toddlers, it seems the damage is hard to reverse. It's all about the hormones. Imagine that. So take the time to love your new baby. They will love you back for years to come.

Nestle has pulled baby milk off the shelves in Europe

Just when you think it is safe to feed your child something other than your milk, you get the warning ... Nestle has recalled baby milk from Spain, Portugal, France, and Italy. Nestle has found traces of ink from the packaging that has gotten into the milk. A Nestle spokesperson says that the substance is not a health hazard but has decided to pull the product anyway. Bon apatite!

Abigail Whitchall and baby Dominic go home Friday

Abigail Whitchall, the stabbing victim in England, has been able to take her little boy, Dominic Adrian, home and was baptized yesterday. Whitchall, a devote Catholic, was grateful to be able to not only survive her vicious attack but carry, deliver, and baptize her second son. Abigail and her husband, Benoit, chose Dominic which means "Of the Lord" and Adrian was a family name. Big brother, Joseph, "is enjoying being a 'big brother' and is giving Dominic lots of cuddles"

Baby panda Su Lin takes her first steps while baby Tai Shan will be introduced to the country on Dec 8.

How sweet was your little one's first steps? Baby panda, Su Lin, was totally adorable when she went looking for mommy the first time. I look forward to when Kayleigh takes her first steps without my help but I don't want her to do it too soon.
Likewise, 4 month old Tai Shan will be shown to the world on Dec 8. There has been a lot of interest in little Tai Shan due to the unique birth of a baby panda in the US. Besides, who doesn't love to see any kind of baby!

Talk about wearing your heart on your sleeve...

The little girl that was born with her heart outside of her body died only 2 days after she was born. The baby girl was born with her heart between her neck and collarbone and was holding it in her right hand. Her parents weren't able to pay for any kind of treatment much less the journey to receive it. I can't imagine what they are going through. This little girl has captured the compassion of the world. No one wants to hear about any birth defect but to hear such tragedy brings people together.

Putting baby to sleep just got more complicated.

For years, the 2 most popular ideas of getting your baby to sleep has been Dr Sears saying to sleep with your baby and Dr Ferber saying to let them cry it out. My sister prescribes to Dr Ferber and I prescribe more to Dr Sears. Now both are saying that a little more moderation might be in order. Guess it all still comes down to what you feel comfortable with. They way I see it, as long as your child is resting, then you are doing it right.
